THIS year’s annual Yankee All-White Boat Cruise will be held on April 16 to celebrate 17 years of HIV/AIDS advocacy and support given to infected persons living in Guyana and their families.

Founder of the popular event, Ruschelle Cameron and her mother Carol Wills, have this year collaborated with several non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and the business community to ensure that such persons have access to medication, one-on-one counselling, personal care items and support in the event of a burial.

It was explained that the fundraising event is held in honor of a family member, who was neglected and shunned by her relatives after being diagnosed.

According to Cameron, their goal was to create a space for individuals to gather together and lend support to one another, as well as a space for persons living with HIV/AIDS to feel safe and included.

The event has been providing support and hope to those who are affected.

It is an event that reflects the power of the community and the importance of coming together to support those in need.

Additionally, the boat cruise has over the years helped to raise awareness and has given a platform to many to share their stories and experiences.

The event also serves as a memorial for those who have lost their battle with HIV/AIDS.
