THE trial pertaining to the murder of Rosemary Rudder, who was allegedly killed by her ex-lover in 2018, was, on Tuesday, aborted by Justice Simone Morris-Ramall at the Demerara High Court.
The trial commenced on Monday against Lucri Fiffee, who had denied killing Rudder on March 31, 2018, at his Westminster, West Bank Demerara (WBD) home.
The Guyana Chronicle was made to understand that, on Tuesday, a juror informed the court that he knew one of the State’s witnesses.
The judge, based on the juror’s disclosure, decided that the trial had to be aborted in the interest of justice.
As a result, Fiffee will face a new trial at the next sitting of the Demerara Assizes.
Prosecutor Muntaz Ali represented the state, while Fiffee was represented by attorney-at-law, Dexter Todd.
A post-mortem examination revealed that Rudder died as a result of compression to the neck compounded by blunt trauma to the head.
The Guyana Chronicle had previously reported that, on the day in question, Fiffee and Rudder were involved in an argument. It is alleged that during the fight, the accused choked the woman to death.
