A 58-year-old Route 50 minibus driver, who was allegedly busted with almost 120 pounds of cannabis, was, on Tuesday, remanded to prison by Magistrate Alisha George.

Lal Bahadur Byjoo of Plantation Hope, Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice appeared at Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court and pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Particulars of the offence alleged that Byjoo, on September 24, at Beterverwagting, Railway Embankment, East Coast Demerara, had 54.2 kilograms of cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.

He was remanded to prison until November 1, 2022.

According to a release from the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU), Byjoo was arrested by CANU ranks during an operation in Beterverwagting.

CANU ranks intercepted Byjoo’s minibus and conducted a search, which led to the discovery of several parcels of cannabis. He was arrested and later charged.
