…Tourney named in memory of late Vish Jadunauth

“THREE down, one to go.” These words were uttered by a confident captain Looknauth Ramsuchit, following Mercenary’s nine-wicket victory over Caribbean Sensation in Sunday’s Ontario Softball Cricket League (OSCL) T10 knockout final, played at the Ashtonbee Reservoir ground in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada.

Already with three titles in the bag, after topping the points table in the Regular Season race, Mercenary also copped the T15 crown and are firm favourites to cart off the T20 playoff which gets underway on Saturday, September 10.

Winning the toss and opting to bowl first in the Norman Sue Bakery-sponsored tournament, played in memory of late cricket stalwart executive, Vish Jadunauth, Mercenary restricted Caribbean Sensation to 63 for seven in their allotted 10 overs with Anand Balwant (14) being the only player to reach double figures.

Amit Rukhram finished with the impressive figures of three for five from his two overs while Shaun Deonandan took one for eight and Avinash Sookdeo one for 10.
Openers Avish Rukhram (26 not out) and Sookdeo (21) added 57 for the first wicket in 6.5 overs before the latter, who struck two fours and a six, went bowled by Fareed Baksh.

Rukhram’s knock included two fours and six as victory was achieved in 8.3 overs.
Amit Rukhram and Balwant were named Most Valuable Players for the respective teams.

In Saturday’s semi-final, played at the same venue, Caribbean Sensation defeated Better Hope while Mercenary drew a bye to the final.
At Sunday’s presentation ceremony, both OSCL president Shiv Persaud and Canada Cricket Umpires Association (CCUA) leader, Albert Ramcharran, lauded Norman Sue Bakery for its continued sponsorship of cricket and sports in general and for honouring the late Jadunauth.

Kim Sue, who represented Norman Sue Bakery, pointed out that it’s always a pleasure to give back to the community and to promote the grassroots game.
Jadunauth, who died last February, served as an executive in the OSCL and was Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for the Scarborough Cricket Association (SCA) up to the time of his death. He was also treasurer for the CCUA and a qualified West Indies Cricket Umpires (WICUA) umpire. (Frederick Halley)
