Man in custody after ‘disorderly’ relative hits head and dies

COLLIN Wishart, 50, of Well Road, North Ruimveldt, died on Saturday after hitting his head on a bed when he was pushed by a relative who was trying to quell his disorderly behaviour.
According to the suspect who is a 20-year-old taxi driver of North Ruimveldt, the now dead man began to behave disorderly at about 03:00 hours on Saturday and was hitting the walls of the house disturbing the family members and surrounding neighbours.

According to the relative, Wishart’s disorderly behaviour continued throughout the morning, when at about 14:00 hours, the 20-year-old man who was in the yard washing his motorcar, was attacked by the man with a cutlass. The 20-year-old managed to bar the attack with his left hand.

According to reports, the deceased then walked back to his room and continued to behave disorderly, while allegedly threatening to kill his 57-year-old sister, who also resides at the said address, and began to pelt her with bottles.

The 20-year-old man upon seeing that, push the deceased into his bedroom, to calm him down. The deceased then began to fight up and fell onto the bed frame, hitting his head before he fell to the floor, motionless.

Police were informed and visited the scene where the body was seen lying on the right side in the bedroom door area.
The body was examined and injuries were seen to the left side eye area, above and below as well as to the upper left ear, forehead, and the man’s right wrist area.

The man’s body was escorted to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) and subsequently to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home to await a post-mortem examination.
The 20-year-old was arrested and is presently in custody at the East La Penitence Police Station assisting with the investigation.
