WITH their tails up following wins in the Test and T20 series, hosts West Indies will have their sights set on a complete white-wash of the tour, come today, when the first ODI bowls off at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence.
Oodles of confidence was gained by Nicholas Pooran and his men, who wrapped up the T20 series 2-nil, with relative ease following a ramapnt batting exhibition by a few of their players.
With the shift to the 50-overs format, Bangladesh could fancy a turnaround and look to draw first blood against the home team today.
The Tigers have a solid record at Providence, with two wins from three games at the venue. Meanwhile, Windies’ last series win against the visitors was back in 2014 with three losses under their belts following that lone victory.
South Africa and Afghanistan both suffered defeats earlier in the year, at the hands of the Bangladeshis. While the Windies managed to win just one of four of their ODI series, with the lowly-ranked Netherlands being their victims.
The return of star pacer, Mustafizur Rahman and opener Tamim Iqbal will most certainly boost the Tigers’ weaponry. While the batting form of Afif Hossain, Mahmudullah and Litton Das in the T20s, will be extremely crucial for the remainder of the series. West Indies welcome the return of opener and arguably their best ODI batter, Shai Hope. Fellow opener Kyle Mayers, all-rounder Rovman Powell and Pooran all hit blistering form in the T20s, all smacking fifties and could easily settle in and do more damage given the increase of overs.
Match bowls off at 09:30hrs. (Clifton Ross)
