School girl allegedly nabbed with ‘ganja’ in socks

A 12-year-old female student from the Three Miles Secondary School in Bartica, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) was, on Wednesday, nabbed with two ‘Ziploc’ bags of cannabis inside of her socks.

According to a police release, on the day in question, around 13:00 hours, the acting Head Mistress of the said school received a ‘tip-off’ that students from Grade Seven were in class with narcotics.

“As a result, she carried out a search and unearthed two zip lock (sic) transparent plastic bags containing cannabis concealed in the socks of a 12-year-old female student.

“The student was questioned and she related that she got the cannabis from her friend, another 12-year-old female student of the said class who claimed that she stole it from her father,” the release said.

According to the police, when the father was contacted he admitted ownership of cannabis, which he used to smoke.

All parties were interviewed by the police, and by the Childcare and Protection Agency (CPA) on Thursday.
