–Pouderoyen, Uitvlugt and Den Amstel record contrasting wins
SLINGERZ Football Club vowed to return to their dominant ways in the West Demerara Football Association (WDFA), and #1 All-Stars had a front-row seat to the club’s quest to make good on its promise.
The former Elite League Champions, making a return to the sport after a six-year hiatus, picked up its second consecutive win, following a 12 – 0 thrashing of #1 All-Stars in the final game on Sunday.
Four matches were played at the National Track and Field Centre at Leonora, in the ongoing STAG WDFA League.
Following the side’s 3 – 0 win over Uitvlugt in their first game back to the WDFA league, several players who were part of the Golden Jaguars Nations League campaign made their appearance, and further added more arsenal to Coach Vurlon Mills’ line-up.
At halftime, the 2013 and 2014 former WDFA League winners were up 6 – 0; a lead which doubled by the end of the 90.
Deon Alfred took his tally to seven goals in two matches, with the five he scored on Sunday.
Alfred netted in the 11th, 21st, 51st, 61st, and 78th minutes in the lopsided onslaught by Slingerz FC.
National youth player Matrim Martin found the net twice (48’, 58’), while Ricardo Halley (38, 48’) also scored a double.
Leo Lovell, who was impressive for Guyana in the CONCACAF Nations League, rocked the net in the 28th minute. The other goals came from Jamal Perreira (5’) and Samuel Garnett (65’).
Meanwhile, Kiode King (23’) and Dometri Osborne (36’) scored in the first half to help guide Pouderoyen to a comfortable 2 – 1 win over Eagles FC. Neshawn Liva scored the lone goal for Eagles FC in the 64th minute.
Uitvlugt Football club bounced back from their defeat by Slingerz FC to score a 10 – 1 over Wales Football Club, while Den Amstel earned a 10 – 1 victory over Bell West Football Club.
