THE Guyana Chess team scheduled for the 2022 44th FIDE Chess Olympiad in Chennai, India will be led by some of the best male players in the country and a solid line-up of female players.
Leading the charge will be current Open national champion CM Wendell Meusa and former champions CM Taffin Khan and FM Anthony Drayton.

The other male players that will compete in the Open category are the time-and-tested Loris Nathoo and the much improved Roberto Neto.
The female side is made up of a number of young players, who have risen to the top of the game in a relatively short time.

Of the five players, three are teenagers, including National Women’s champion, 14-year-old Pooja Lam and former champion 18-year-old Sasha Shariff.
Twenty-year-old Jessica Callender and 21-year-old Nellisha Johnson also have had their share of success, so too has junior player, 12-year-old Anaya Lall.

The Olympiad is the biggest chess event in the world with over 150 countries set to participate during July and August.
Following the support from Team Mohamed to offset a fundraising dinner planned for the Georgetown, Princess Hotel on June 25, two other sponsors have come on board.

Last week, Pinnacle Business Services Inc. and Jade’s Wok donated $100 000 each towards the team.
Tickets for the three-course, fundraising dinner are $10 000 each and can be purchased through any executive member of the federation.
