THE Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) practice match, expected to be a warm-up for the National Senior Men’s team, the Harpy Eagles, begins today at the Providence National Stadium.
The four-day encounter is the last bit of match simulation for the team before they wing out to compete in the last three rounds of the Cricket West Indies West Indies Championship Tournament from May 18 in Trinidad and Tobago.
The match begins at 09:30hrs.
Chairman of the senior national selectors, Ravindranauth Seeram and his panelist, Albert Clement (Smith), Peter Persaud and Elroy Stephney called up the following players to participate in the match from Monday.
Johnson’s X1: Leon Johnson (Cap’t), Chandrapaul Hemraj, Vishaul Singh, Tevin Imlack, Akshaya Persaud, Anthony Bramble, Keemo Paul, Junior Sinclair, Demeter Cameron, Antony Adams, Clinton Pestano, Richie Looknauth, Joshua Jones, and Cylus Tyndall.
Chanderpaul X1: Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Trevon Griffith, Matthew Nandu, Kevlon Anderson, Mavindra Dindyal, Kevin Sinclair, Gudakesh Motie, Nial Smith, Ronsford Beaton, Kemol Savory, Sachin Singh, Steven Sankar, Keon Joseph, and Shamar Joseph.
The last encounter between Johnson X1 and Keemo Paul X was abandoned.
That match started last Monday at the Everest Cricket Club ground, Eve Leary, with the latter team winning the toss, and electing to take first strike, but only managing 177/10.
In response, Johnson X1 had compiled a score of 13/3, trailing by 164 runs, when the rain disrupted play.
The 2019-20 edition of the West Indies Championship had to be aborted after eight of the ten-round fixture, when it became apparent that it would not be possible to complete the season.
Barbados, then in the lead, was crowned champions.
As the COVID-19 pandemic raged, administrators deemed the 2020-21 tournament logistically impossible. In the 2022 edition, Guyana played in the Twin- Island Republic against Windwards and Leewards, respectively, in the first two rounds.
After winning five consecutive titles, Guyana lost championship honours to Barbados. The local team now hopes to better their performance in the remaining three matches, scheduled for Trinidad and Tobago.
