Dominant start for Berbice, Demerara in U15 Inter-county tourney

POWERHOUSES Demerara and Berbice got convincing victories when the Guyana Cricket Board/Dave West Indian Imports Under-15 Inter-county 50-over tournament commenced on Friday.
At the Number 69 ground in Berbice, the hosts trounced Rising Star Select Under-15 by 146 runs, while in Essequibo at the Imam Bacchus ground Demerara thumped the home team by 81 runs.

Defending champions Berbice posted 196-9 from 48 overs in their rain-affected match, led by Romario Ramdeholl with 44. Extras was the next best contributor with 38.
Adrian Hetmyer made 31 while Razam Koober 25 and Ravin Boodwah 22 also had contributions. Nicholas Hall led Rising Stars’ bowling with 3-24 and got support from Reshan Sakralla.

Rising Stars were then bowled out for 50 of which 36 belonged to extras; Arif Khan had 4-8 while Hetmyer took 2-3 and Enrique Mickle 2-14.
At the Imam Bacchus ground, Demerara reached 126-7 from 30 overs, led by Dhanesh Persaud (29), Mikel Sharma (27) as Christopher Williams (3-20) and Earo Benjamin (3-19) took wickets for Essequibo.

They were then bowled out for 45 from 21.5 overs (Extras 20, Rakesh Kellawan 10* as Darwin LaRose 5-19, Dave Mohabir 2-0 and Shane Prince 2-8 did the damage.

On Monday, Demerara will oppose Berbice at the Albion Community Centre ground, while Essequibo will clash with Rising Star Select Under-15 at Everest.
