You are cancelled!…

AFTER years of scandalous paternity tests and cheating partners, the iconic ‘Maury Show’ has been cancelled.

The show’s host, 83-year-old Maury Povich, announced his upcoming retirement in a statement earlier in the week on his social media platforms.

It follows logically that the show will be shelfed also. It is expected that the final episode will be aired in September.

‘The Maury Show’ first aired in 1991 and quickly became a daytime sensation. Not your typical day time show, it brought to many televisions screens outrageous dramas and scandalous stories that captured the eyes of a wide, thirst-for-scandal audience.

The show got high ratings on American cable networks and was even often aired on local television networks in the Caribbean, Guyana being one.

Clips from the show also went viral online even though the show existed long before social media. Nowadays, meme culture has preserved some of the wacky dances and shenanigans of men who are famously told the words, “You are… NOT the father!”

It wasn’t all golden, however. The show stirred up a few controversies as Maury had a way of using unconventional methods of telling the most intimate stories of people’s lives.
It’s amazing how the show managed to stay alive for so long, but it’s time to say goodbye.

Maury in his statement on retirement said: “Six years ago when I was ready to retire, the NBC Universal family asked me to continue the show. Even though I told them I was ready for assisted living, out of loyalty to NBC Universal and my more than 100 staff and crew members, Tracie Wilson and I agreed to one more deal.

“I’m so proud of my relationship with NBC Universal and all those who worked on the Maury Show, but as I occasionally tell my guests on Maury, ‘Enough, already!’”

Maury had begun his career as a radio reporter. In the late 1980s, he gained national fame in the United States as the host of tabloid infotainment TV show, ‘A Current Affair’. The show was based at FOX network’s New York flagship station, WNYW.

Back to Maury’s origins, he actually began his broadcasting career as a street reporter for the FOX owned-and-operated station, WTTG in Washington, District of Columbia (DC), before transitioning to news coverage, and sports and talk shows.

After 15 years in DC, he left and anchored newscasts for various networks in the cities of Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Philadelphia in the United States.
