FIVE years after 76-year-old David Ramkissoon was killed during a robbery at his Better Hope, East Coast Demerara (ECD) home, Godfrey Gill called “Chucky” has admitted to the gruesome crime.

On Thursday, Gill was arraigned for murder before Justice Simone Morris-Ramlall at the Demerara High Court. However, he opted to plead guilty to the lesser count of manslaughter.

The 27-year-old admitted that, on August 21, 2016, he unlawfully killed Ramkissoon during the course of a robbery.

Justice Morris-Ramlall deferred sentencing until March 24, 2022. He is represented by attorney-at-law, Dexter Smartt, while prosecutor Caressa Henry presented the State’s case.

Gill’s co-accused, Sherwin Clark, is on remand awaiting the commencement of his High Court trial.

According to the prosecution’s case, on the day in question, the victim was at home when Gill, along with others, invaded the building and robbed him. During the robbery, his throat was slit.

The matter was reported to the police after relatives returned from the creek and discovered his body.

According to reports, the two accused had a dispute over the division of the loot. As a result, police were tipped off and they were both arrested after being told of the allegation.
