TWO men, who allegedly killed Yarrowkabra, Soesdyke/Linden Highway housewife, Edith Reuben, and tied her body to a tree in an attempt to cover up the crime, on Tuesday, appeared in the Diamond/Grove Magistrate’s Court and were remanded to prison.

Reuben’s reputed husband, Dianand Lakhan, 41, and his friend, Aubrey Williams, 36, both residents of Yarrowkabra, were not required to plead to the joint murder charge, which was read to them by Magistrate Judy Latchman.

It is alleged that on February 8,2022, at Yarrowkabra, they murdered Edith Reuben.

Magistrate Latchman remanded the duo to prison until March 3,2022.

On the day in question, the woman’s lifeless body was found hanging from a mango tree in her yard.

Police commenced a murder investigation after an autopsy revealed that she died as a result of asphyxiation due to hanging compounded by blunt trauma to the head.

Investigators secured a High Court order to further detain and question the two men.

According to a police report, the men, while in custody, confessed to hitting the woman to her head after finding her in a compromising position with another male. They reportedly told investigators that they then staged the scene to give the appearance of a suicide.

Investigators believe she was killed sometime between 00:30 hours and 06:00 hours on the day she was discovered.

According to the police, Reuben, her husband and others were drinking alcohol and a male friend ended up spending the night at the couple’s home.

Reuben was last seen alive at 00:30 hours on her verandah. She was drinking at the time. Her husband and the male friend had already retired to bed.

The husband had initially told police that about 04:00 hours, the male friend woke him up and told him he was leaving. The husband said he went back to sleep and woke up two hours later when he made the gruesome discovery.
