RAPE accused, Wayde Padmore, will have to stand a new trial after a 12-member jury failed to reach a verdict on Tuesday.
Padmore was on trial before Justice Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Sexual Offences Court of the High Court, Georgetown.
The first charge alleged that Padmore between December 1-31,2019, in the county of Demerara, engaged in sexual penetration with a 13-year-old.
The two other charges alleged that Padmore, during October 2020, engaged in sexual activity with the victim and also caused her to watch him ejaculate when she was 14.
As a result of the jury’s inability to reach a verdict, Padmore will have to be retried at the next practical sitting of the Demerara Assizes. He will remain on bail.
