GUYANESE interested in pursuing higher education at institutions in the United States of America (US) have been urged by the embassy here to apply for the 2023-2024 Fulbright Foreign Student Programme.

According to a press statement from the US embassy, the deadline for submission of applications is June 15, 2022.
The Fulbright Foreign Student Programme enables Guyanese graduate students and young professionals to complete a Master’s or PhD at a higher education institution in the US.

Founded in 1946, the Fulbright programme now operates in 160 countries and has provided over 400,000 people, from all backgrounds and in all fields, the opportunity to study, teach and conduct research, exchange ideas, and contribute to finding solutions to complex global challenges.

Some 127 Guyanese have so far benefitted from Fulbright scholarships since the early 1960s. Those persons are now in the public sector, academia, the arts, business, civil society, media, and education.

Sponsored by the US Department of State, the Fulbright Foreign Student Programme forms part of the US’s continued commitment ensuring there is prosperity in Guyana and the region.

The programme provides a basis for establishing lasting ties between citizens of the United States and their professional counterparts in other countries, fostering an exchange of knowledge and mutual understanding throughout the world.
