THE police in Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo) on Saturday seized a quantity of illegally imported alcoholic beverages totalling $624,000.

Police Headquarters reported that the raid was carried out at the Tabatinga, Central Rupununi houses of a 31-year-old taxi driver and a 54-year-old businessman who are both in police custody.
It is suspected that the items were illegally imported from Brazil.

The items seized include 2,004 tins of Itaipava beer; 180 tins of Antarctica beer; 60 tins of Skol Beer; 60 bottles of Blend Seven; 48 bottles of Skarloff Vodka and 12 bottles of Blackstone Rum.
The said alcohol and beer were taken to the Lethem Police Station.
