KNOWN throughout the local basketball fraternity as the ‘Mecca’, a newly refurbished Burnham Court was unveiled with its new look thanks to its adopted brand, Hennessy, following Thursday evening’s official launch.
The venue’s transformation is nothing short of amazing, when compared to its past condition and in keeping with the upgrades, Thursday’s event was well-attended by a number of local hoopers, media, stakeholders and Hennessy brand sponsors, Ansa McAl.
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Charles Ramson Jr blessed the event as he greeted and chatted with players and attendees alike. During his brief remarks he lauded all parties involved for helping to breathe fresh air into a sports venue which has been the cornerstone for outdoor basketball during its 65 years of existence.

As the basketball fraternity now enters a new era, thanks to the massive upgrades of the court, Hennessy’s adoption further reflected the prestige.
The cognac’s impeccable worldwide reputation, was mirrored in the works of the Court with the installation of new lights, officials’ tables, a brand new players’ areas, bleachers and of course a newly redone, designed painted court.
Organisers of the event also hosted a fun 3X3 mini exhibition basketball tourney which featured a good turnout of basketballers and further added to the celebration of the event. hosting
The winning team bagged a nice purse of $100 000,to go along with medals and bragging rights for the future. Hennessy was also leisurely and responsibly consumed as part of the grand opening of the court.
The brand’s representative also noted that the Hennessy brand is keen on continuing its support of basketball among other sports in Guyana going forward.
