BEHARRY Restaurant Holding, franchise holders of KFC in Guyana, recently pledged their support towards the Guyana Mixed Martial Arts Federation (GYMMF), doing so in the form a $1.5M cheque to the country’s governing body for mixed martial arts.

Guyana fielded a team for the first time at the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) which is ongoing in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and president of the GYMMA, Gavin Singh, said the team’s participation would not have been possible without KFC’s support.

“Guyana has secured its full recognition status towards the IMMAF Congress in the 2021 AGM held in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Its documentations and development have made them rub shoulders with other CARICOM states,” Singh said.

He added that “it has been a challenging and edifying journey ensuring coaches certification, WADA trained personnel, accredited media persons and executive management programmes. During this journey KFC took the bold step as the lead sponsor for the GYMMA National Team.”

Marketing Officer of Beharry Restaurant Holdings, Pamela Manasseh, apart from highlighting KFC’s proud involvement in MMA via the GYMMA, pointed to the company’s “history of sponsoring and supporting our local talent as they compete at home and abroad and this event is just as special to us.”

The GYMMA president says he’s looking forward to “future ventures with KFC Guyana, particularly in the area of youth development programmes at grassroots level, academic scholarships, regional and international championships. Thank you, KFC Guyana, for continuously fulfilling your Corporate Social Responsibility.”
