Man accused of wounding granted $30,000 bail

A TWENTY-year-old Mandela Avenue, Squatting Area resident was, on Wednesday, released on $30,000 bail after denying that he wounded a man during a fight.

Omar Moore appeared before Magistrate Annette Singh at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and denied that, on December 11, 2021, at East La Penitence, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Andrew Jason with intent to maim, disfigure, disable or cause grievous bodily harm to him.

According to reports, Moore and Jason are known to each other. On the day in question, Moore saw Jason beating his brother with a belt.  Moore intervened and Jason allegedly hit him which caused a fight to ensue between them.

Jason, who was present in court, said that he is willing to accept compensation to settle the matter. He told the court that he suffered injuries including a puncture to his lung.

The magistrate released Moore on $30,000 bail and adjourned the matter until February 16, for report on the compensation.
