CITY Magistrate Annette Singh, on Tuesday, released three men on $40,000 bail each. The men were, allegedly, caught dumping garbage on Wellington Street, Georgetown.

Satnarine Bisnauth of Tuschen, West Coast Demerara; Jomo Singh of William Street, Kitty and Wellington Jirk of North Ruimveldt, Georgetown were hauled before the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on separate charges.

They denied that on January 17, 2022, they deposited waste on Wellington Street, a public place.

After granting bail, the magistrate adjourned the matter until February 10th, 2022.

Last weekend, the government, the private sector and the Joint Services joined forces to clean up several parts of the city.

The Guyana Police Force subsequently issued a warning to the public to desist from dumping garbage in and around the city of Georgetown. The clean-up initiative is part of efforts to restore Georgetown to its former glory and for it to be once again known as the ‘Garden City.’

The force has cautioned members of the public that it is unlawful to be dumping garbage in the city of Georgetown and its environs, and anyone found doing so will face the full force of the law.

Footage from CCTV cameras are being reviewed by ranks in a bid to identify and capture litterbugs.
