ELITH Osorio Dominguez, a 21-year-old Venezuelan, was, on Friday, remanded to prison for allegedly beating his fellow countryman to death during an argument over raw gold.

Dominguez appeared before Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and was not required to plead to the charge which alleged that on January 1, 2022, at Arau Mountain Top, Cuyuni River, he murdered 51-year-old Animal Sonja, who is also a Venezuelan.

Dominguez was remanded to prison until March 14, 2022.

Police had said that based on information received,  Dominguez and Sonja were known to each other.

It is alleged that on the day in question, they were at Dominguez’s sister’s mining camp when an argument ensued over him allegedly owing Sonja a quantity of raw gold.

The argument became heated and Dominguez allegedly picked up a piece of wood and struck the victim to the head, causing him to fall to the ground where he remained motionless.

Dominguez thereafter made good his escape but was later arrested by police in the area.
