POPULAR Essequibo businessman Vick Sooragpaul and his wife, Seromini Choomanlall, narrowly escaped death last Sunday night. He swerved his car to avoid hitting a donkey and crashed into a utility post at La Belle Alliance Public Road, on the Essequibo Coast.

The accident reportedly occurred around 23:00 hours, and according to reports, the donkey veered into the path of the driver. The businessman and his wife were reportedly returning home at the time of the accident.

Such was the force of the impact, eyewitnesses say, that it caused the utility post to topple, and the businessman’s vehicle to sustain extensive damage. Luckily, however, the occupants of the vehicle managed to escape with minor injuries.

Residents who heard the loud impact caused by the hit rushed out and quickly took the couple to the Suddie Public Hospital, where they were admitted but were later discharged.

Residents and members of the business community are calling on the Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) Administration to get rid of the stray cattle on the roadways.
