DEN Amstel Football Club (FC) and Bartica All-Stars are the latest teams to advance to the Quarter-finals of the Kashif and Shanghai/Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Super-16 Year-End tournament, following matches in Regions Seven and Three on Sunday evening.

While Bartica All-Stars made it look easy in their 5 – 0 drubbing of Essequibo All-Stars, Den Amstel had to fight hard against Santos FC to come away with their 1 – 0 victory.

Playing at the Bartica Community Centre Ground, Andrew Simmons recorded a hat-trick for the home side, registering his strikes in the 24th, 32nd and 75th minutes, while Joshua Jones added a double (57’, 71’).

With the win, Bartica will now play one of the pre-tournament favourites, Western Tigers, on Christmas Day.

Meanwhile, in what some considered an ‘upset’, Den Amstel, through a single strike from Jamal Pereira in the 61st minute, sent Santos FC packing.
Many pundits had the young Santos team advancing, but Den Amstel showed superiority over their fellow GFF Elite League side.

Den Amstel will now face Fruta Conquerors on on Boxing Day in one of the quarter-finals. Fruta Conquerors are looking to make amends for their 2019 tournament finals defeat, when they went down 1 – 0 to the Guyana Defence Force.

The tournament will continue tomorrow in Linden at the McKenzie Sports Club Ground, where the GDF will do battle against the Upper Demerara All-Stars from 18:00hrs, while Milerock FC is set to face the East Bank All-Stars in the second match of the double-header.
