PEDAL cyclist, Nevill Anthony Small, 24, was killed after a car PTT9673 crashed into him while he was riding on the Profit Public Road, West Coast Berbice (WCB) on Friday morning.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Sandra Gittens, 45, of Lot 98 Brushe Dam, Friendship, East Coast Demerara.

According to Police Headquarters, the driver of the motorcar alleged that she was proceeding east along the northern side of the said road at a normal rate of speed when she was blinded by lights of a vehicle in the opposite direction which caused her to collide with the cyclist, who was proceeding west along the northern side of the road.

As a result of the impact, the pedal cyclist was thrown onto the front windscreen, then onto the roadway where he received injuries to the head and about his body.

He was picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the Fort Wellington Public Hospital where he was examined and pronounced dead on arrival.

The driver is in custody assisting with the investigations.
