THE Centre for Local Business Development (CLBD) will commence a two-day training course in gas-to-energy and procurement today, with the second session billed for November 23.

The organisation also plans hosting two sessions on health, safety, security and the environment, the first of which will be held tomorrow, while the other is scheduled for November 24.

This is according to Head of the Region Three Private Sector Inc., Halim Khan, who noted that all the sessions will be held at the Sugar Cane Club in Wales, on the West Bank Demerara, the same venue at which the group had launched its Region Three Outreach Programme on November 2.

At that session, he said, presentations were made by the Minister within the Ministry of Public Works Deodat Indar; Minister of Natural Resources Vickram Bharrat; and Minister of Housing and Water Collin Croal on the importance of the proposed Gas-to-Energy Project planned for Wales in 2022, and the impact it will have on residents there and businesses of the region.

As CLBD Director Natasha Gaskin-Peters was quoted as saying in her presentation, “This is an opportune time for the Centre to conduct its outreach in Region Three. With the Gas-to-Energy project in Wales, and the new shore-base facility approved for Vreed-en-Hoop, both beginning in 2022, Region Three will see some massive developments in the near future. Our job is to help educate the local businesses on how to build their business competitiveness, so that they can contribute to the development of this region through these activities.”

The training programmes are being offered free of cost to all Guyanese, and those interested in accessing them are encouraged to make every effort to do so.

The CLBD reportedly receives financial support from the Greater Guyana Initiative, which is funded by the Stabroek Block co-venturers ExxonMobil, Hess and China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC).

Reputedly the country’s premier source for information on the oil-and-gas industry, local business development, professional networking, and policy advocacy, it has since its launching in 2017, been meeting the growing demands of Guyanese businesses by offering training, mentoring for growth and procurement linkages, and continues to spur local competitiveness and drive, as well as economic growth.

Its integrated approach is said to help Guyanese businesses benefit from offshore oil-and-gas opportunities and business expansion, while maximising skills transfer and technology development.
