Man accused of theft granted bail

A THIRTY-SEVEN-year-old fish vendor, who allegedly stole jewellery from a woman while they were involved in a brawl, on Friday, appeared in the Georgetown Magistartes’ Court and was granted bail in the sum of $80,000 by Magistrate Dylon Bess.

Tafivan Vieira of Meadow Bank, Georgetown, appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and denied that on September 26, 2021, at Meadow Bank Wharf, he stole from Roma Monasar one gold ring valued at $152,200 and a silver ring valued at $14,500.

According to the facts presented by Police Prosecutor Christopher Morris, on the day in question, the accused had a physical altercation with a woman at the wharf.

It is alleged that during the fight, Vieira snatched Monasar’s rings and made good his escape. He was later arrested after being identified by the victim.

Magistrate Bess granted Vieira $80,000 bail and ordered him to lodge his passport at the court.
