Two new COVID-19 deaths take toll to 484

THE Ministry of Health, on Wednesday, confirmed two more COVID-19 deaths for the month of July, 2021, taking the death toll for that month to eight, and the overall toll to 484.
THE latest fatalities are two males– a 59-year-old from Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara), and a 65-year-old from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica)– who succumbed while receiving medical care. Further, the Ministry of Health has recorded 77 new cases of COVID-19, with 920 tests carried out for July 6, 2021.
Of these, Region One (Barima-Waini) recorded five; Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), two; Region Three, five; Region Four, 23; Region Five (Mahaica-Berbice), one; Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne), eight; Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo), four; and Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice), 29.
The newly infected persons were 45 males and 32 females. Presently, 15 persons occupy the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), while 89 are institutionally isolated, 1,410 are isolated at home, and three are institutionally quarantined.

Of Guyana’s 20,645 confirmed cases since the detection of COVID-19 here, 1,517 are active, and currently being monitored, while 181 of Guyana’s 18,647 recoveries were recorded within the past 24 hours. All Guyanese are urged to observe the protocols of the COVID-19 emergency measures, which emphasise the need for correct and consistent use of a face mask when leaving home, the importance of maintaining the six feet physical distance from others, and the need for good hand hygiene to help curb the spread of COVID-19.
