Over 50 years of service to the manufacturing sector

–Mohamed’s Manufacturing Enterprise going strong

ADDING value to agricultural produce through processing and packaging has been the practice of Mohamed’s Manufacturing Enterprise for five decades.
Known for its hallmark brand, Peppy’s, Mohamed’s Manufacturing Enterprise has made great strides and progress since opening its doors in 1971.

The company, founded by Khalil Mohamed, started as a small factory at Sussex Street, Albouystown. At that time, the company was producing chowmein, and subsequently vermicelli noodles. It was the first modern noodle manufacturer to break into the Linden market.

However, due to a fire in 1976, the uninsured Sussex Street business was completely destroyed, leaving the owner to seek viable options to restart his business. Mohamed, according to his daughter Saleema Mohamed, approached several government officials at that time and was able to secure financial assistance to get his business up and running again.
Through this support and assistance, Mohamed was able to begin rebuilding his business at a location at Lusignan, East Coast of Demerara (ECD). He said that the success of the company is owed to its ability to stay abreast with changing demands and to strategically add new commodities to its production line.

Saleema told the Sunday Chronicle that Peppy’s currently manufactures a wide variety of products, including sauces, spices, seasonings, flours, noodles, vinegar, and similar products. Today, the production of those items is done centrally at the company’s factory located at Triumph, ECD.
The firm acquires most of its herbs and spices from its own farm, an establishment called Jaskasa Farm situated at Canal Number Two, West Bank Demerara.

Khalil said that the firm’s ability to “control” the process from the farm to manufacturing ensures that it is aware of the quality of its products. The company’s main goal, aside from creating employment, is manufacturing quality products in order to satisfy consumers.

Currently, Saleema said, Peppy’s distributes products throughout Guyana and the CARICOM Region.
Their company’s focus is on constantly raising its production level and improving the quality of service delivery, as well as global health and safety standards, to attain ISO certification.
