Miner killed in drunken brawl

A 20-year-old miner, identified as Shemar Drakes of Third Avenue, Bartica, Region Seven, was, on Monday afternoon, stabbed to death during a drunken brawl with a colleague.
He was stabbed, allegedly, by a Brazilian around 01:30hrs at Suewanda Backdam, Upper Puruni River. Police are seeking the whereabouts of the perpetrator.
According to police, investigations revealed that on the aforementioned time, Drakes and the suspect were on Suewanda Landing consuming alcoholic beverages and apparently became intoxicated. This resulted in an argument between the two and during the quarrel, the suspect, who was armed with a sharp instrument, dealt Drakes a single stab to his lower abdomen, causing his intestines to protrude. Drakes then ran to a cook shop where he related to the owner what happened. Shortly after he collapsed and became motionless about 100 feet south of the shop, on the main access road. His body was examined and a single wound was seen to his lower abdomen. The body was escorted to the Bartica Public Hospital.
Police said efforts so far to locate the suspect have been futile.
