TWO male suspects have been arrested and are reportedly in custody following a burglary at the A&S Store at Rose Hall Town, Corentyne, Berbice. A number of cellphones and an amount of cash were reportedly stolen during the robbery.

According to Police Headquarters, the owner of the store, a businesswoman, reported that around 18:30hrs on Thursday last she secured the shop and went home.

Upon her return around 08:15hrs on Friday last, she observed that the western door of the store was opened, and the glass case which contained several cellular phones was missing. She immediately raised an alarm and the matter was reported to the police.

Some 12 iPhones valued at $2.4M; five iPhone 12 Pro Max valued at $1.6M; 35 Samsung Galaxy phones worth $1.5M; one Digi Tronic tablet worth $65,000 and $20,000 in cash were reported missing.

The police reported that as their investigations continued on Saturday, a cordon and search exercise was carried out on the home of a suspect in Williamsburg Village, Corentyne, Berbice, who identified to the police where he had hid several cellphones stolen during the burglary. Further investigations also led to the arrest of a second male.

Some 23 cellphones were recovered by the police, with the assistance of the first suspect and have been identified by the business owner, all of which have been lodged as evidence. Both suspects remain in custody pending charges.
