ADRIAN Sewdeen was on May 28, 2021, sentenced to 15 years imprisonment on two counts of rape committed on an 11-year-old girl.
The sentence was handed down by Justice Gino Persaud at the Essequibo High Court.
In March, Sewdeen was convicted by a 12-member jury for the offence, which read that between June 1 and 30, 2018, in the county of Essequibo, he engaged in sexual penetration with a child who is under the age of 16. He was also convicted on the second count which read that on July 9, 2018, he repeated the act.
According to reports, Sewdeen is known to the victim and her family. The victim would often be left in the care of a woman who is known to Sewdeen, and according to the prosecution, he raped the child whenever the woman was away.
