Security guard killed in hit-and-run accident

A 41-year-old security guard attached to the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA)’s office at Springlands, East Berbice, was killed in a hit-and-run accident which occurred at Number 77 Village, on Wednesday. Based on information from the police, the guard was struck down by a 32-year-old male, who was driving a motorcar bearing registration number HC 3098.
Reports are that the suspect was driving south along the eastern side of Number 77 Public Road, reportedly at a fast rate of speed, when the left side of the car collided with the pedestrian, who was standing on the eastern side of the road.
Despite hitting the security guard, the driver purportedly fled the scene without rendering any assistance.
The pedestrian was picked by public-spirited citizens and taken to the Skeldon Public Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival. The body is presently at the Skeldon Public Hospital mortuary awaiting a Post Mortem examination.
The driver of the vehicle was later apprehended at the Number 79 Public Road and escorted to the Springlands Police Station. A breathalyser test was conducted on him, and it was found that he was over the legal limit. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
