POLICE have arrested the passenger of a minibus after 10 pounds of cannabis were found, following a search of the vehicle on Wednesday.
According to information from Guyana Police Force (GPF), officers acting on information around 18:57 hours on Wednesday, stopped a minibus bearing registration number BYY 5866, in front of the Fort Wellington Police Station. The minibus, which had 10 occupants, was escorted into the station’s compound where a search of the vehicle was conducted in the presence of every passenger and the driver. A few minutes into the search, police found one red, white and blue travelling bag under the conductor’s seat. Upon opening the bag, officers found two parcels containing leaves, seeds and stems, suspected to be cannabis. One of the passengers claimed that the bag belonged to a 34-year-old male, who joined the said minibus with the same bag at Rosignol. The suspect was told of the offence, arrested and cautioned. The cannabis was weighed in the presence of the occupants of the vehicle and it amounted to 10 pounds. It was placed in a transparent plastic evidence bag, sealed and lodged. The suspect remains in custody, as investigations continue.
