Man found guilty of robbing couple

CHRISTOPHER Quick, of Westminster, West Bank Demerara, was, on Wednesday, found guilty of two counts of robbery and was sentenced to 24 months in prison for each charge. In handing down the sentences, Magistrate Delon Bess said they will run consecutively. The case against Quick was that he, on March 6, 2021, at Stabroek, Georgetown, while being in the company of others, robbed Sarena John of one purse valued $2000, $14,700 cash, and one Samsung J7 cellular phone valued at $53,000. He was also charged with robbing Alex Shivnandan of $30,000 cash and one Samsung A10S cellular phone valued at $45,000.

Prosecutor Harris told the court that around 17:00 hrs, the couple was walking along Croal Street when Quick and his accomplices confronted them. Quick demanded that John hand over her bag. When she did not do so, Quick and his accomplices held onto them and forcibly relieved them of the items mentioned in the charges. They dealt Shivnandan several cuffs about his body and choked John. Quick and his accomplices then escaped. The matter was later reported. Acting on information received, Quick was contacted by the police, told of the allegation and arrested. Shivnandan’s cellular phone was, allegedly, found in his pants crotch.
