FIVE COVID-19 deaths, recorded by the Ministry of Health between Thursday and Friday, have pushed the COVID-19 death toll to 268, a figure which is reflected in the Ministry’s daily COVID-19 dashboard for April 17.
The latest fatalities are three 81-year-old women from Regions Six (East Berbice-Corentyne), Three (Essequibo Islands- West Demerara), and Four (Demerara-Mahaica); along with two men, ages 64 and 46, from Regions Four and Six, respectively.
There are now 35 documented COVID-19 deaths for the month of April, 2021.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health has recorded 120 new cases of COVID-19 from 1,574 tests conducted. Of this total, Region Two recorded 17; Region Three, 31; Region Four, 62; Region Five, four; Region Six, three; Region Seven, one, and Region Nine, two.
The newly infected persons were 52 males and 68 females. No other regions have confirmed new cases within the past 24 hours.
There are currently 13 persons in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 75 in institutional isolation, 1,244 isolated at home, and 21 in institutional quarantine.
Guyana has confirmed a total of 11,762 cases of COVID-19 since the discovery of the first case in Guyana. Of that number, 1,353 are currently active; and of the 10,161 recoveries, 100 were recorded within the past 24 hours.
All Guyanese are urged to observe the protocols of the COVID-19 emergency measures, which emphasise the need for correct and consistent use of a face mask when leaving home, the importance of maintaining the six feet physical distance from others, and the need for good hand hygiene to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.
