Five-time defending National Tennis Champion, Cristy Campbell was yesterday voted in as president of the Guyana Lawn Tennis Association (GLTA) following their General Meeting and Elections, held at the National Racquet Centre. Campbell came up against Anabel Sharma and won 11 votes to three.
Nigel Niles is the GLTA’s First Vice President, winning the post 10 – 4 over Patrick Mentore, while Surendra Khayyame was unopposed for the position of Second Vice President.
Delon Fraser and Patricia Hope were tied on seven votes a piece in the run-off for the position of the GLTA’s Secretary. Hope, Hope withdraw her contention, giving Fraser the position.
Ramesh Seebaran is the Treasurer. Jamal Goodluck , Kimberly Conway, Marlin Henry and Renate Jordan are the Committee Members.
Returning Officer was Attorney-At-Law Sharon Small. Sheltez, Roraima, Non-Pariel, Rebel, Wimbledon, Pumas, Everest and United Tennis Club, along with the Guyana Tennis Coaches Association were the eligible clubs at the General Meeting and Elections.
Meanwhile, Speaking to the Media, Campbell said while there might have been some flared tempters in the lead-up the elections, she’s hoping that everyone can still work together in the interest of the sport. Campbell said while there’s a new nine-member executive in place to govern the sport, the GLTA “will need the players, parents, coaches stakeholders; everyone to come on board. I’m open to dialogue with anyone who would have something meaningful to add to the development of tennis.”
