Three die of COVID-19

THREE additional deaths recorded by the Ministry of Health between Monday and Tuesday have pushed the COVID-19 death toll to 249.
The latest fatalities are two women, aged 67 and 78, from Regions Four (Demerara-Mahaica) and 10 (Upper Demerara- Upper Berbice), respectively, and a 67-year-old man from Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara). They all died while receiving care at a local health facility.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health has recorded 26 new COVID-19 cases from 296 tests conducted for Monday, April 5. This was reflected in the Ministry of Health’s daily COVID-19 dashboard for April 6. Of these, Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara) recorded two cases; Region Four, 15; Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne), two; Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni), 11; and Region 10, one.

The newly infected persons were 17 males and 14 females. No other regions have confirmed new cases within the past 24 hours.
There are currently 12 persons in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 75 in institutional isolation, 947 isolated at home and eight in institutional quarantine.
Guyana has so far confirmed a total of 10,637 cases of COVID-19. Of that number, 1,042 are currently active. And, of the 9,354 recoveries, 65 were recorded within the past 24 hours.
All Guyanese are urged to observe the protocols of the COVID-19 emergency measures, which emphasise the need for correct and consistent use of a face mask when leaving home, the importance of maintaining the six feet physical distance from others, and the need for good hand hygiene to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.
