RENOWNED pageant planner, Pamela Dillon, on Saturday, at her D’Urban Backlands residence, launched the “Simpli Royal Professional Cosmetology Club,” to provide local cosmetologists and beauticians with a support network to motivate them to grow as professionals. The club caters to persons who are certified cosmetologists, or self-taught operators wanting to upgrade and certify themselves, and students who are hopeful about their future, and want to be on the cutting edge of the industry. “We aim to encourage your professional growth by combining knowledge of theory and hands-on opportunities to lay the foundation for your future career, meeting the international standards while enhancing the education of you, the industry leaders, in Guyana,” Dillon said in brief remarks on Saturday. This club will provide a support mechanism for practising cosmetologists, and Dillon said for those who join, they should see membership as an investment in their future. “We want to provide each member with excellent education and business support, so that he or she prepares to embrace the future with confidence in today’s changing world, as we beckon First World development because of our new-found oil wealth,” Dillon said. Membership would also offer exclusive discounts at particular merchants. The club has already received commitments on offers of discounts at Clippers Barber and Beauty Supplies, and OD’s Creative Nail Supplies so far, and is inviting other retailers to get on board and support the mutually beneficial initiative.

“There will be other benefits such as skills upgrades, business coaching, networking opportunities, industry news, monthly support meetings, and discounted master classes,” Dillon said.
The programme is also being promoted as part of Guyana’s technical and vocational education training (TVET) landscape.
Saturday’s launch was attended by Deputy Director of the Council for TVET, Krishn Sharma. Dillon herself is a TVET-Certified facilitator, and has been teaching since 1989.
The event was also attended by a number of resource professionals within the field from the Caribbean region and the USA. Among those making remarks were Dr. Germaine Williams-Beckles, a Trichologist and Facilitator from Trinidad; Reverend Joan Ward, an Author and Publisher from Barbados; and Carlotta Braithwaite, a stylist from the USA.
The event also saw products on display such as NSI Guyana, distributed by Lexann’s Nail Creations, owned by Lexann McPhoy; Leisa’s Salon and Beauty Supplies, which manufactures local beauty and body products; and Liesl Headley, owner of Nature’s Own Body Clinic, which specialises in massages and detoxification.
Author of “A Compilation of Daily Reminders,” Wendy Hermonstine also had copies of her book on display.
