Man gets three months in prison for stealing two batteries

KADEAM Obedia, on Tuesday, was found guilty of attempting to steal two batteries from a vehicle belonging to the Ministry of Home Affairs when he appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and was sentenced to three months in prison by Magistrate Delon Bess.

The charge states that Obedia, on Monday, September 7, 2020, at Brickdam, Georgetown, attempted to commit a felony, specifically, simple larceny. He attempted to steal two batteries valued $64,000, property of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

According to prosecutor Harris, the police and security guards of the Ministry of Home Affairs are au fait with Obedia. On Monday, September 7, 2020, at about 22:55 hours, while police ranks were on duty, Obedia, who was in possession of a hammer, was observed to be proceeding towards one of the ministry’s vehicles. The vehicle was parked on the southern side of Brickdam Street, in the vicinity of the Ministry of Home Affairs. Obedia was seen lashing the padlock which secured the steel cage around the batteries. An alarm was raised and Obedia was arrested. He was told of the allegation and he admitted to it. He was then placed into custody and charged for the offence.
