PRESIDENT Dr. Irfaan Ali on Saturday visited the grieving relatives of 10-year-old Anthony Cort who was gunned down by bandits on Thursday last.

Dead: Anthony Cort

Cort had been playing in the upper flat of his neighbour’s ‘C’ Field, Sophia house when bandits invaded the property in search of valuables. After looting the downstairs shop, one of the bandits stayed behind, holding Cort’s mother and baby sister at gunpoint, while the other gunman escorted the shop-owner upstairs in search of more valuables.

Before the woman could begin her search for more possible loot, Cort exited the room where he had been playing and the bandit reportedly spared no hesitation in opening fire on the child. After shooting the young boy, the bandits fled the scene, jumping a zinc fence aback the yard.

During the visit, President Ali comforted the distraught family, expressing his sincerest condolences to the child’s parents. As Cort’s mother, Denise McPherson reminisced on her son’s life, she became inconsolable. The Head-of-State, who has also suffered the loss of a child, was there to provide a comforting embrace.

The Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces also promised to do all in his power to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice. President Ali was accompanied by the Minister of Home Affairs, Robeson Benn, who also expressed his sympathy and promised justice for the family, especially the child’s parents.

On Friday, Minister of Human Services and Social Security Dr. Vindhya Persaud, also visited the family and pledged her ministry’s unwavering support in assisting the family to get through their ordeal.
