MARK Lowchee, called “Mark Lee”, who was on trial at the High Court for fatally shooting a man outside the Blue Iguana nightclub in 2003, was, on Wednesday, acquitted of the crime by a jury.
Lowchee, who is partly handicapped due to a stroke to his left side and uses a cane for assistance, was arraigned before Justice Navindra Singh for the capital offence which read that on September 21, 2003, at Fifth and Light Streets, Alberttown, Georgetown, he murdered Collis DeAbreu.
A 12-member jury, on Wednesday, after deliberating for almost two hours found Lowchee not guilty of the crime. The State was represented by prosecutor Tiffani Lyken while Lowchee was represented by Attorney-at-law, Ravindra Mohabir.
According to reports, on the day in question, there was a misunderstanding between Lowchee and the owner of the nightclub over a glass belonging to the Blue Iguana.
It is further alleged that Lowchee pulled out a gun and discharged several rounds in the vicinity of the nightclub, hitting De Abreu to the chest and injuring other patrons. De Abreu was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital and was pronounced dead on arrival.
