Passenger who allegedly stabbed minibus conductor remanded

JOELD Haynes, who is accused of stabbing a minibus conductor to his neck during an argument, appeared at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court, on Tuesday, and was remanded to prison by Magistrate Russell Liverpool.

Haynes was not required to plead to the indictable attempted murder charge.

It is alleged that on March 5 at ‘C’ Field, Sophia, East Coast Demerara, Haynes caused grievous bodily harm to Vishal Singh with intent to murder him.

Prosecutor Thornel mentioned to the court that on the day in question, about 21:20 hours, Singh was working on a minibus when an argument ensued between himself and Haynes, a passenger. The argument escalated and Haynes allegedly stabbed Singh, who was immediately taken to the hospital where he was admitted as a patient.

Haynes subsequently filed a report at the police station, but was told of the allegation against him before being arrested.

The accused will return to court on March 11.
