THE Lusignan Golf Club (LGC) has gotten into their stride after hosting their second tournament of the year under the COVID-19 parameters.

On Sunday, the club held the Agro Services and Amazon Planx Golf Tournament at the Lusignan Golf Course where 32 players turned out to compete in the medal-play format event.

Topping the charts was Mahendra Harry with a gross 78 HC (Handicap) – 14 net 64, while in second was Anand Persaud with gross 92 HC – 26 net 66; third place went to Rakesh Harry who ended with gross 84 HC – 13 net 71 and fourth was Guillermo Escaraga who accumulated gross 88 HC – 17 net 71.

On his way to victory, the Lowest Gross award went to Mahendra, the Nearest-to-the pin was won by Mike Mangal and the Longest Drive winner was Tom Watkins.

Sharing his sentiments at the conclusion of play was Secretary of the LGC, Chet Bowling, who said, “In terms of what it feels like to host another tournament, I feel excited. We see more companies coming forward and we are actively looking, engaging various business associations to partner with, to bring golf to their members.”

He continued: “What’s next for us is that next Saturday we will be hosting a tournament sponsored by Suresh JagMohan Construction Services. The COVID situation is still a concern but we see things moving forward; the executive is actively discussing the Guyana Open which usually sees a lot of overseas players – from the USA, Suriname and other Caribbean countries.”

Meanwhile, president of the LGC, Patanjilee Persaud, thanked the sponsors and players for their continued support.

One of the tournament sponsors, Amazon Planx, is a complete wood- processing facility with products which range from logs to moulded products such as base board, groove and tongue, lap-edge, crown mouldings, deck boards, and a wide variety of lumber as they also have facilities for kiln-dried lumber.

The other major sponsor was Agro Services Inc which is one of Guyana’s leading quality suppliers of bulk, whole and processed fresh fruits and vegetables. The company was recently acknowledged by the GMSA for ‘Emerging Entrepreneurship’ with a product of a consistent quality. The also specialise in a number of additional agricultural development specialisations.
