Businessman shot, robbed at Eccles

LOCAL businessman, Nandkumar Bahadur, was shot and allegedly robbed of GY $500,000 and personal documents as he and an employee stopped at the traffic light on the Eccles Public Road, on Thursday.

Bahadur, the owner of Kumar’s variety store, located at the De Willem Public Road, West Coast of Demerara (WCD), told the Guyana Chronicle that he and an employee were travelling home on Thursday evening when the alleged robbery occurred.

He said that two male suspects on a motorcycle suddenly stopped alongside the driver side of the vehicle, pointed a gun at him and demanded his belongings.

The businessman said that he handed over his haversack with the cash and documents and the two suspects, after shooting him, rode away while he nursed his wound. He was subsequently taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), where he was awaiting surgery when he spoke to the Guyana Chronicle on Friday morning.

The Guyana Chronicle was informed that investigations into the shooting and robbery are ongoing. Additionally, this newspaper was informed that there has been a spate of robberies in and around the community of Eccles over the past few months.
