Alleged phone snatcher gets bail

A MAN, who allegedly snatched a security guard’s cellphone while he was on duty, appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on Monday, and was granted $10,000 bail by Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs – Marcus.

Jerimiah St. Valle, 20, denied the charge when it was read to him.

It is alleged that, on February 11, 2021, at Shell Gas Station, Mc Doom Public Road, East Bank Demerara, he stole from the person of Jermine Harding, one cellular phone valued at $30,000.

According to information provided, on the day in question, about 05:15 hours, Harding was on duty at the gas station when St. Valle snatched his phone. Harding gave chase but was unable to apprehend St. Valle.

Later that day, St. Valle was positively identified by Harding as the person who snatched his cellphone. Subsequently, St. Valle was arrested and charged for the offence.

He will make his second court appearance on April 8.
