Police Force receives COVID-19 Combat Kits from ‘EnGenDER’

THE Guyana Police Force (GPF), on Wednesday, received several Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) from the Enabling Gender-Response, Disaster Recovery, Climate, and Environmental Resilience Project ‘EnGenDER’.
Commissioner (ag), Nigel Hoppie, during a simple ceremony at Police Headquarters, Eve Leary, expressed gratitude on behalf of the Force and by extension the Government of Guyana to the British High Commissioner (ag), Ross Denny; Canadian High Commissioner, Mark Berman and UNDP representative, Navind Persaud, as well as their respective teams for the timely gesture and their continued support. The commissioner further alluded that the PPE and other medical supplies will certainly aid ranks in the execution of their duties during these “COVID-19 Times”.

The objective of project EnGenDER is to “further integrate gender equality and human-rights based approaches into disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation, environmental management frameworks and interventions, identifying and addressing some of the gaps to ensure equal access to disaster risk education, climate change and environment solutions for men, women, boys, and girls.” The GPF is among many State entities, earmarked to benefit from the provisions of the initiative. The Force received 2,500 3ply medical/surgical masks, 300 full face shields, 500 coveralls, 300 goggles, 18 boxes of gloves, 25 non-contact infrared forehead thermometers, 50 bottles of alcohol-based sanitisers, 50 anti-bacterial cakes of soap and 20 spray bottles. Present at the ceremony were Police Public Relations and Press Officer, Assistant Commissioner, Royston Andries-Junor; Deputy Commissioner ‘Administration’ (ag), Senior Superintendent Calvin Brutus; Deputy Commissioner Law Enforcement (ag), Senior Superintendent, Wendell Blanhum; and Head of Special Branch, Senior Superintendent Ravindradat Budhram.
