GUYANA’S President Dr Irfaan Ali is now a life member of the Everest Cricket Club.

The Head of State, who has been an active member of the club for many years, received the honorary card on Sunday after the launch of the President’s Softball Cup at the club’s pavilion.

Speaker of the National Assembly, who is also president of the Everest Cricket Club, Manzoor Nadir, said that President Ali has always been up to date with his membership payment.

“The President of Guyana is always honored with honorary membership of the Everest Cricket Club, but today we will be making His Excellency a life member.”

In receiving the membership, President Ali said that Everest CC has a long history in Guyana. He said that the facility has been a premium one and has been instrumental in sport and other social activities.

“I am happy to be given this honour of life member. I wish the club well, I hope the management will continue to improve, not only the physical conditions of the club, but will grow the membership, and will see the ground being optimally utilised for the benefit of Guyana.”

The highly ranked Georgetown-based club has a number of prominent individuals as members and have fared well on the cricket scene.

In November of last year, the club had given life membership to former British High Commissioner, Greg Quinn.
