Poll: Invest in agriculture, oil & gas 

AN opinion poll conducted by eminent pollster and political analyst Dr. Vishnu Bisram in mid- January has found that the population wants (is supportive of) the government to invest in agriculture and energy (oil and gas) to ensure sustained long-term growth and to transform the economy of the country.
The findings of the poll (of 470 respondents) reflect the views of the demographics and of the diversity of the population.
According to the findings of the poll, when asked whether government should invest in agriculture for sustained growth, 86 per cent said, “yes”; nine per cent said, “no”; and five per cent offered no response or said “Not Sure.”

Asked whether government should invest in oil and gas for long-term growth, 83 per cent said, “yes”; 11 per cent said “no” and six per cent said not sure. The public feels that energy investment will help to transform and modernise the economy.
The public is very supportive of the re-opening of the closed sugar estates – 81 per cent in support with 12 per cent opposed to and seven per cent offering no opinion.
Respondents were also asked who were the most popular and effective ministers. Attorney General Anil Nandlall was rated as the most popular minister of the government. Other ministers who received high ratings for performance include Zulfikar Mustapha, Deodat Indar, Nigel Dharamlall, Vickram Bharrat, Kwame McCoy, Bishop Edghill and Susan Pariag, among others.
