THE two holes on the Dawa pump house at Tapakuma in Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) is no cause for worry, and will be repaired when the rainy season ends.

This was Regional Vice-Chairman, Humace Odit’s response to a question posed by coalition councillor, Trevor Cozier, during a recent Regional Democratic Council (RDC) statutory meeting.

Cozier informed members of the council that he was told that the pump has two holes and he questioned whether this will result in further flooding in the Pomeroon River. Cozier added that the Pomeroon River is already “choked” with a high volume of water and should there be any further flooding, the livelihood of cash-crop farmers will be severely affected.

Odit later clarified that the holes are on the pump house and not on a pump or pumps.
He explained that the holes are approximately 4 inches in diameter and stressed that they do not pose a threat.

The Vice-Chairman informed the RDC that engineers are unable to conduct repair works given the rainy conditions. He assured that the holes will be repaired when there are dry weather conditions.
The engineering team, in the meantime, will assess the holes so that they can source the appropriate materials to repair them when the weather improves.
